This appears to be an excerpt from the newsletter of the Kew Baptist Church where F W Boreham was Pastor-Emeritus. It is copied from the ‘Argus’ [Melbourne’s morning newspaper until 1957] following the publication of FWB’s book, ‘I Forgot to Say: A Gust of Afterthought’ in 1939.
Perhaps the delight of readers and the Book Clubs was intensified because this book signalled that Dr Boreham was going to keep on publishing his essays after he had hung up his fountain pen.
This book, ‘I Forgot to Say’ is a treasure containing so many different types of essays. ‘Wet Paint’ is a fine example of how FWB found spiritual meaning from ordinary things. ‘The Long Arm of Coincidence’ contains some wonderfully personal coincidences from FWB and his reflection on these mysteries. Then he has a couple of related essays-’Too Good to be True’ and ‘Too True to be Good’. ‘A Melodious Quaker’ is typical of his many biographical essays, this one on the life of John Greenleaf Whittier.
Dr Boreham’s books contain a variety of topics and with a choice of around 30 essays in each book, there’s bound to be a couple that you resonate with and and return to often.
